What Are the Chances of Success with Fertility Treatment?

 

In Germany, 433,858 children have been born following IVF treatment to date. This is roughly equivalent to the combined population of the cities of Saarbrücken and Chemnitz.

 

Serious side effects and complications during fertility treatment are generally rare.

 

The risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is approximately 0.2%, while complications associated with egg retrieval occur in around 0.6% of cases. These figures demonstrate that modern fertility treatments are well established and considered medically safe.

 

 

Timely Fertility Treatment Matters

 

Pregnancy rates remain above 40% up to the age of 30 and gradually decline thereafter.

 

The miscarriage rate increases to 34.2% by age 40 and rises to more than 85% after the age of 45.

 

Both pregnancy and live birth rates decline significantly after the age of 40.

 

Whether an embryo is transferred fresh or after freezing and thawing, approximately one in two patients achieves an early pregnancy following a second embryo transfer.

 

Although a negative pregnancy test after treatment can be emotionally challenging, statistical data offer encouragement: the likelihood of success increases significantly with each additional embryo transfer. After four transfers, approximately two-thirds of patients achieve pregnancy.

In doing so, we support the scientific advancement of reproductive medicine and the continuous improvement of treatment quality.
