Not all fertility treatment costs are covered by health insurance providers. Eligibility for financial support, for example for insemination, IVF, or ICSI treatment, is subject to specific requirements such as age, marital status, and medical indication. Under these conditions, up to 50% of treatment costs may often be covered.
Private health insurance providers assess reimbursement on an individual basis. The actual cost of treatment depends on several factors, including:
the type of treatment chosen
the extent of required diagnostic testing
hormonal medications
the number of necessary monitoring appointments
possible additional services
As a result, it is not possible to provide a fixed price in advance. A realistic cost estimate can only be made after a thorough diagnostic evaluation and once an individualized treatment plan has been established.
General Cost Guidance
Insemination treatment generally falls within the hundreds of euros per cycle. IVF, ICSI, and Social Freezing treatments typically involve costs in the thousands of euros.
Information on Funding and Financing Options
1. Cost Coverage Through Statutory Health Insurance (Section 27a SGB V)
If the eligibility criteria are met, statutory health insurance may cover 50% of treatment costs. Requirements include being a married couple within the applicable age limits (female partner ≤ 39 years, male partner ≤ 49 years), with an application submitted and approved before treatment begins.
2. Cost Coverage Through Private Health Insurance
Private health insurance providers have their own reimbursement policies and may cover a higher proportion of costs, up to full reimbursement. It is important to clarify your individual coverage before treatment begins, including benefits for IVF, ICSI, medications, cryopreservation, and related services.
3. Public Funding Programs, e.g. Berlin State Funding (LaGeSo Grant)
Both heterosexual and same-sex couples with involuntary infertility and primary residence in Berlin may be eligible for funding.
A subsidy is generally available starting from the second treatment cycle, provided that the application is submitted before treatment begins. The State of Berlin offers financial support toward out-of-pocket expenses remaining after reimbursement from statutory health insurance, private health insurance, or civil service aid programs.
The subsidy may cover up to 50% of the remaining personal contribution, up to a maximum of €800 per IVF cycle and €900 per ICSI cycle.
Please note that funding programs in Berlin may occasionally be suspended for new and follow-up applications. We therefore recommend checking the latest information on the LaGeSo website or contacting the agency directly before submitting an application.
4. Installment Payment Option Through PVS Südwest GmbH
Our billing service provider offers the possibility of paying treatment invoices in installments. The repayment period may not exceed 12 months. Three consecutive monthly installments are available free of charge, with no administrative fee and no interest.
For payment plans exceeding three monthly installments, a one-time administrative fee applies. For invoices up to €500, the fee is €10. For higher invoice amounts, the fee is €15, plus any applicable reminder or late-payment charges.
In addition, the statutory interest rate of 5% above the applicable base rate will be charged.
