Can we afford the child we’re wanting?

The costs of fertility treatment are cheaper than many people think.

For once, this financial news is good: the costs for basic diagnostics are covered by most health insurances (statutory and private). Health insurance companies support fertility treatment as long as it is hormonal in nature and focuses on correcting ovulation disorders.

Many health insurance companies also contribute to the costs of artificial insemination. Artificial insemination (intrauterine insemination (IUI)) or fertilization of the eggs outside of the body (in vitro fertilization: IVF or ICSI) is financed by your insurance company if both partners have been tested for HIV and hepatitis B and C beforehand. A completed basic diagnostic test is a prerequisite for this, including the partner having two spermiograms at 12-week intervals.

Overall, however, the extent to which costs are covered depends on your insurance.
